Recognition and execution of foreign judgments and arbitral decisions in Peru. (Exequatur)

If you got a final judgment or an arbitral decision outside Peru, you must make a judicial process of recognition of the final judgment or arbitral decision before the Judicial Power in Peru to get recognition in our country.

For example if you got married in Peru and left the country with your wife, time went by and you got divorced outside Peru and need to register the final judgment in the Town Hall of the city where you got married (in Peru) or the civil registry. According to Peruvian law in order to get recognition for the foreign judgment it will be necessary to make a judicial process known as "exequatur". If your ID shows your name as married, this will be the only way to change your name back to when you were single.
